Summer 2016 - Present
Barbie Does … is a creative art project. Forward thinking artists are selected in comment on gender roles through their work. The first installment of the project was centered on the topic of puberty.
"[im]perception deals with body image - a subjective visualization of one’s own body. The black outline is representative of how adolescent Barbie sees herself. When she looks in the mirror a woman of healthy proportions returns her gaze, complete with nipples and hips. Barbie has long been touted [and criticized] as an icon of idealized beauty. Yet, as a society we sometimes neglect to realize that our imperfections make us human. Our imperfections make us beautiful. Our imperfections make us perfect."
