Reversing the typical relationship between a stairway and its railing, these stairs were generated by the railing which in turn, was derived by a modifying the formula for a reversible helix.
The resulting digital model was transferred to the physical world in three iterations. The first was made out of paper. The second was a 3D print. Finally the third iteration sought to highlight the digital <> physical relationship by segmenting the individual surfaces of the stairwell projected the surfaces flat onto the plane grouping them by slope. Thus creating families of shapes based on something that is unseen.
